Sleeping Beauty: The Time-Traveler REVIEW

When:  January 28th - February 12th

Where:  Lewis Family Playhouse, Rancho Cucamonga

Price:  General $16, Youth $14

I went last night to see the Final Rehearsal of Sleeping Beauty:  The Time Traveler.  The set was beautiful and I loved seeing the band on top of the castle setting.  The story takes you from the 21st century about a young kid name Rolly who is more interested in his TV shows, computer, and games than reading and learning about history.  His parents decide to put a little excitement in his studies by taking him away from the distractions and exploring the world.  This backfires as for Rolly the vacation is boring and all he wants to do is play his game.  Then the magic happens when Rolly ends up in the 10th century France.  There he meets Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) who he thinks is Zelda from his game and the over protective King and Queen.  It was great to see Rolly starting to appreciate history and learning as Aurora describes heroes and adventures that she has read in books.

OVO Cirque Du Soleil in Southern California

When:  Now through March 11th

Where:  Santa Monica Pier

Tickets are available online at cirquedusoleil.com/ovo.

About OVO
OVO is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects’ home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion.

When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives.

It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye—and the feeling is mutual.

OVO is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic.  And as the sun rises on a bright new day the vibrant cycle of insect life  begins anew.

Acts
OVO features many acrobatic acts including a stunning flying trapeze act:  Six flyers fly as high as 14 m, making this act the biggest of its kind ever presented under a Grand Chapiteau by Cirque du Soleil. This act is the most difficult in the world to execute in terms of the distance between stations. It combines many circus disciplines: banquine, Russian swing
and swinging chair.

The finale features 20 artists running, jumping and leaping straight up an 8-meter vertical wall.

FUN!!! FUN!!! FUN!!! at CASTLE PARK!

We went to Castle Park last Saturday and I was really surprised at how many rides my preschooler could get on!  Being on my 9 month of pregnancy it was great to see a lots of shady areas and places to sit while my preschooler got on the rides.

Out of 27 rides 11 of them he could ride alone and 9 of them he could ride with a partner.

Loved seeing my son run around from ride to ride.

    His favorites...

    Crazy Plane - A kid-sized plane (adults can ride too)....rode 3 times!

Castle Park Railroad - a 15 minute ride around the park

Antique Car Ride - cute setting....he rode this about 6 TIMES!!!!  He loved it.  We came back to this ride later to ride over and over again.  Saw some other kids that we had seen early re-riding also!

They have a beautiful Merry-Go-Round that both kids and adults love!

He didn't build up his courage to go on Log Ride, but he now says that next time we go that he wants to get on.

Rolly is a typical kid whose boring summer vacation turns into a terrific adventure when he stumbles on the past and ends up in 10th century France. There he encounters Princess Aurora, a feisty 12 year old girl who longs to be a knight and travel the world. Aurora's parents don't let her leave the castle walls because of a secret curse that was put on her when she was born. Despite all their protection, Aurora pricks her finger on a spindle and the curse comes to pass – she sleeps for a thousand years. Rolly, back in the present, finds the sleeping Aurora and wakes her up. The two friends are reunited and Aurora gets to discover the world outside the castle at last! (For ages 5+)

America’s Got Talent semi-finalists The Platt Brothers (Cy, Boone, and Cheetah) blend acrobatics, dance, comedy, and music, framing the spirited retelling of the brothers' childhood antics. Their narratives are as amusing as they are heartwarming, and audiences of all ages will find themselves drawn to the genuine and personable nature of the brothers as they recreate their fun-filled adventures onstage.

Utilizing their incredible physical talents, boundless imagination, and infectious enthusiasm, the Platts translate the classic coming-of-age tale into an epic journey filled with excitement and mishaps. The Platt Brothers brings to life the exuberance of youth and the adventures of childhood; it explores the magical connections shared by families and strengthened through uninhibited use of imagination.

The show opens with a whirlwind of dance, all-original music, and gravity-defying acrobatics. The sheer explosive energy exhibited in the opening number ignites the audience’s imagination and welcomes them to the exciting world of being a Platt. Three-part a cappella harmonies follow, punctuating laugh-out-loud narratives of family adventures and sibling quarrels. Cheers of glee and squeals of mock terror erupt as the Platts transform themselves into lifelike dinosaurs, Scotsmen, and robots, masterfully drawing the audience into a world of imagination and intrigue.

The Platt Brothers is a show for the entire family. Showcasing skilled acrobatics alongside classic slapstick comedy, the brothers' performance is just as captivating for adults as it is for children. The show’s inclusive nature, paired with the Platt brothers’ charm and improvisational talents, ensures that the performance is always unique and relevant.

The original tales carry simple but often forgotten life-messages including kindness, forgiveness, respect for nature, and tolerance. With the help of the faery folke, the children embark on an exciting adventure to assist the faeries on a quest for the Faery Royalty. In a gentle and fun way, the audience actually become part of the story. The shows are for children, boys and girls, and the young-at-heart. Most of the children come in costume -- it is not required faery fun.
