A Faery Hunt - Griffith Park - June 18th
A Faery Hunt
When: Saturday, June 18th. All shows start promptly at 10:30am
Where: Fern Dell Place, Griffith Park
Winner of the Nickelodeon's Parents' Pick Award for "Best Children's Theater in Los Angeles," and named "Best of LA" by LA Parent and Los Angeles Magazines, now in its 7th year, the critically acclaimed "A Faery Hunt" is one of the most loved family shows in Los Angeles. The original tales carry simple but often forgotten life-messages including kindness, forgiveness, respect for nature, and tolerance. With the help of the faery folke, the children embark on an exciting adventure to assist the faeries on a quest for the Faery Royalty. In a gentle and fun way, the audience actually become part of the story. The shows are for children, boys and girls, and the young-at-heart. Most of the children come in costume -- it is not required faery fun. There is something in the show for the whole family -- beautiful faeries for the girls, action scenes for the boys and topical humor for the parents. Groups and birthday parties are welcomed. www.afaeryhunt.com 818-324-6802.

Calico Ghost Town
We went on vacation to Las Vegas and made a stop at Calico Ghost Town. I was quite surprised that we LOVED it!
Calico is an old West mining town that has been around since 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. With its 500 mines, Calico produced over $20 million in silver ore over a 12-year span. When silver lost its value in the mid-1890's, Calico lost its population. The miner's packed up, loaded their mules and moved away abandoning the town that once gave them a good living. It became a "ghost town."
Calico is located between Barstow and Baker on the 15 fwy.
Open Daily from 9am - 5pm
Price (you pay when you drive in) $6 per Adult, Youth (6-15) $5, and 5 and under FREE
Walking through the streets they have little shops, artifacts, restaurants, attractions, museums, and beautiful scenery.
They have Maggie's Mine that is $1 per person CASH ONLY
A Mystery Shack - A crooked house where the water runs uphill (we wished we had time for this)
Lucy Lane Museum - Artifacts, photographs, and documents from Calico's origin.
Gold Panning - I thought my toddler was too young for this...so didn't try it - saving it for next time!
and my toddlers favorite (of course) Calico-Odessa Railway! $3 per person CASH ONLY!
In all we had a blast!
Tips - It gets very HOT....I would avoid the summer months. Drink plenty of water, wear good shoes for some hiking, sunblock!, and CASH!

Hullabaloo - Road Trip - REVIEW

I was a fan of Hullabaloo when I first heard their song Sippy Cup
So when I heard that they were once again coming to the Glendora Library I wanted to check out their new CD - Road Trip.
The CD was perfect for our family on our trip to Las Vegas this past weekend (check out my posts later for Calico, Bonnie Ranch, and Red Rock Canyon)
Road Trip is a thirteen-song solution to the kid-car travel blues. Designed from the start to keep kids happily grooving in the car seat, Road Trip, includes songs about cars, trucks, sirens, car-seat-dancing, and everyone’s favorite--bugs on the windshield.
My toddlers favorites include Car Seat Dance, Flying Toward the Light (he loves bugs!), and I'm Hungry.
Hullabaloo will be at the following Southern California Locations
May 26th - Java Mama - San Diego
May 27th - Malcom X Library - San Diego
June 2nd - Quail Gardens - San Diego
June 3rd - Vine Theatre - San Diego
June 4th - Torrey Pines High School - San Diego
June 7th - Point Loma Library - San Diego
June 13th - Glendora Library - Glendora - I WILL BE THERE!!!

Dinosaur Train Books REVIEW
If you remember I was invited along with a So Cal Pocket Memories winner to a Jim Henson Company and SoCal PBS presents Dinosaur Train - National Train Day Event.
We are big fans of Dinosaur Train so when I was invited to participate in a review for Dinosaur Train Books The Buddy & Friends board book, A Surprise for Mom, and Tiny Learns to Fish I jumped to the chance and said of course!
When I received the books my son was delighted. Right away he wanted me to start reading. As the pages turned he would say "That's Buddy...he is a T-Rex and eats meat" and "That triceratops eats plants". I loved seeing him intrigued by the books. So for a whole week (so far) we have had to read the books to him every night before bed. Today I saw him "reading" the book to himself. He had memorized the words! He did such a great job.
Dinosaur Train's "Buddy" is participating for the first time this year in May's Get Caught Reading Month, organized by the Association of American Publishers as part of its annual nationwide campaign devised to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read.
The hit television series Dinosaur Train airs daily on PBS KIDS (check local listings).
